Peg
Haptic tuner for Apple Watch
Play a note. Your watch taps you toward pitch, faster as you get close, then goes quiet when you are in. No looking at a screen.
How it works
- A firm tap means you are flat: go sharper. A light tick means you are sharp: go flatter.
- Pulses speed up as you approach pitch and end with one strong ring once the note has held in tune.
- Peg detects any note in any octave, so it works for cello, viola, violin, bass, guitar, ukulele, winds, brass and voice.
- Scroll the Digital Crown for Settings: reference pitch from 415 to 445 Hz, tolerance, and haptic rhythm.
- Double Tap mutes or unmutes the haptics.
Frequently asked questions
Peg does not react when I play.
Make sure the app has microphone access in Settings on the watch, under Privacy & Security, Microphone. Hold the watch within arm's length of the instrument and play a clear, sustained open string. Very quiet playing or a lot of background noise keeps the gauge blank on purpose.
It shows the wrong note.
Peg shows the nearest note to what it hears, without an octave number. If a low string reads as the same letter an octave up, that is fine: the direction and cents are still correct. If it flickers between two neighbouring notes, you are roughly a quarter tone off; tune toward the one you want and it will lock on.
The haptics stopped.
Silence after the strong ring means you are in tune. If you feel nothing at all, Double Tap once to unmute, and check that the watch is not in Silent Mode or a Focus that limits haptics.
Can I change the reference pitch?
Yes. Scroll down to Settings and set A4 anywhere between 415 and 445 Hz. The default is 440 Hz.
Does Peg need an iPhone?
No. Peg is a standalone Apple Watch app. It requires watchOS 26 or later.
